Collating and assessing information on competitors’ strong and weak points, legally and ethically speaking, to improve business decision-making. This can be categorized into two major types: tactical and strategic. Tactical focuses on shorter-term issues, seeking to provide input into matters including capturing market share or escalating revenues. Strategic pertains to longer-term matters including key risks and opportunities an enterprise faces. Opposite of corporate or industrial espionage.
