Corporate initiative to evaluate and take responsibility for its effects on the community and environment. It is generally applicable to company endeavors beyond the requirements by regulators or environmental protection groups. This may also entail incurring short-term costs that do not provide immediate financial benefit but cultivates optimistic social and environmental change. Also called corporate citizenship.
