COVERED BOND
Securities, backed by mortgages or cash flows, created from public sector or mortgage loans. Normally with a 2-10 year maturity, these bonds have relatively high credit ratings that depend on the quality of the pool of loans supporting the bonds. Should the issuer declare bankruptcy, investors who hold this type of bond can lay claim to the underlying assets.
