CROSS-CURRENCY SETTLEMENT RISK
Settlement risk in which a party involved in a foreign exchange transaction pays out the currency sold but has not received the currency bought. The full amount of the currency acquired is at risk, which occurs from the time an irrevocable payment instruction has been settled by the financial institution for the sale currency, to the time purchase has been received in the institution’s (or agent’s) account. Also called Herstatt risk.
