DIVERSIFICATION ACQUISITION
Corporate strategy in which a firm acquires a controlling interest of another company to expand its product and service offerings. If two firms have two different Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes, which means they can conduct two several types of business activities, the takeover is considered a diversification acquisition.
