DUMMY CUSIP NUMBER
Temporary identification number designated to a security by a firm until an official CUSIP number is released. Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures (CUSIP) numbers identify securities when recording orders. It is a nine-character code to be used by a company internally, but may never actually be turned into an official one. This may also be assigned to securities that no longer exist.
