EGP
Currency abbreviation for the Egyptian pound, the official currency of Egypt. It was first used in 1834 upon replacing the Egyptian piastre. The currency was linked first to the gold standard, then to the British pound until in 1962, the country modestly reduced the pound and pegged it to the US dollar. The residents of Gaza Strip unofficially use the currency.
