EXCESS PROFITS TAX
Special tax assessed upon income above a specified amount, normally in excess of a deemed standard income. The tax is designed to generate emergency revenue for the government in times of emergency or war, or beyond a particular amount of return on invested capital. It is imposed on the difference between the amount of profit a firm earns in general during peacetime and during times of war.
