EXTERNAL DEBT
Part of a country’s debt borrowed from foreign lenders such as commercial banks, governments, or foreign financial institutions. It must usually be paid in the currency where the loan was made, interest included. To repay the debt, the borrowing nation may sell and export goods to the lender’s nation.
