GINI INDEX
Economic measure of the income distribution of a country’s residents. Ranges between 0 and 1, it helps determine the gap between the rich and the poor according to the residents’ net income. 0 represents perfect equality while 1 denotes perfect inequality. Named after Italian statistician Corrado Gini, it also gauges other distributional inequalities such as market share.
