GIUSEPPE MORCHIO

Italian executive who became the Chief Executive Officer of automaker Fiat in February 2003 and left the position in May 2004 due to dissatisfaction with Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo being appointed Fiat chairman, a post he wanted for himself. Before working in Fiat, the company was extremely unprofitable and faced a €4.3 billion loss in 2002. The firm was also deeply in debt. During his tenure, he turned the company around, sold some of its assets including Fidis and Toro Assicurazioni, part of his tactic to regenerate firm’s profitability and refocus on autos. Prior to Fiat, he used to work at Pirelli for several years.
