GROUPTHINK
Psychological phenomenon developed in groups which strive for consensus without critical reasoning or evaluation of alternatives or consequences. In many cases, individuals will set aside their personal beliefs or desires to adopt the opinion of the rest of the group, preferring to keep the peace rather than create conflict. This was first used in 1972 by American psychologist and professor emeritus Irving Janis.
