INDEX OPTION
Financial derivative that allows the holder to buy or sell a basket of stocks at an agreed price before the maturity. Similar to other options, the difference being the underpinning instruments are indexes. Options contracts such as index options let investor take profit from an anticipated market move or to cut the peril of holding the underlying instrument.
