INTEREST COVERAGE RATIO
A ratio used to measure how well a company can meet its interest on outstanding debt. This is computed by dividing a firm’s earnings before interest and taxes of one period by the firm’s interest expenses of that same period. A ratio under one means a corporation has problems to pay its interest expense. The ideal interest coverage ratio is 1.5 and above. Also called times interest earned.
