J-CURVE EFFECT
A phenomenon where a negative return within a certain period is followed by a gradual recuperation that stabilizes at a higher point before the decline. While the curve can apply to a data in various fields, this is most noted in economics and private equity funds. It is a J-shaped section of a time-series graph. Oftentimes, this is seen in a nation’s balance of trade and equity fund returns.
