JUDGMENT LIEN
A court ruling that allows a creditor to take possession of a debtor’s real property if the debtor does not fulfill his or her contractual obligations. A judgment lien can be against a person or business, and permits the creditor to access the debtor’s business, personal property, and real estate, among others, to settle the judgment. The intent of most judgment liens is to compel the borrower to pay the creditor.
