JUNIOR COMPANY
A small firm that is developing or looking at refining a natural resource deposit or field at present. First, a junior company will conduct a resource study and give the results either to stakeholders or to the public at large to prove there are available assets. Oftentimes, developing natural resources is a capital-intensive step. If the outcome is positive, the firm will either increase capital or aim to be acquired by a bigger entity. Junior companies are mostly seen in commodity exploration.
