JUNIOR EQUITY
An equity that is lower than other form of equity. Usually, it refers to the common stock for it is subordinate to other stock issued by a company. Common stock ranks behind preferred stock in claiming company dividends because dividends on preferred stock must be settled before any dividends are given to common stock. In case of bankruptcy, junior equity holders have the lowest claim on the firm’s assets.
