LESSEE

An individual who leases a land or property from a lessor. Also called tenant, the person should uphold certain obligations as stated in the lease agreement and by law. The lease is a legally binding document; in the event of a breach of contract, he or she could be evicted from the asset. The lessee has the following rights: privacy; basic standards of habitability such as water, electricity, and heat; and live in a space, which complies with local building codes.
