LIBERTY RESERVE

A Costa Rican company that allows people to send and receive secure payments without revealing their account numbers or identities, only their name, date of birth, and email address. Liberty Reserves (LRs) are also the name of the company's electronic currency, which is backed by either U.S. dollars or by euros. Types of entities that accept LRs include individuals, forex, shopping, finance, entertainment and internet services.

Because of its illegal operations, the US Global Illicit Financial Team seized the website of the company in 2013, in accordance with a seizure warrant acquired by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, and issued pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 982(a)(1) by the US District Court for the Southern District of NY.
