LOCKED-IN RETIREMENT ACCOUNT - LIRA
A registered retirement savings alternative that lets an individual to save money for his or her retirement. Tax-deferred, the funds cannot be cashed out once the funds are locked in. Pension funds placed to a LIRA are also used to buy a life annuity, life income fund (LIF), or locked-in retirement income fund (LRIF). When an individual reaches retirement, the life annuity, LIF and/or LRIF generate pension for life.
