LOST DECADE
The 1990s for Japan; United States’ first decade of the present millenium. It initially describes the Japanese economy in the last decade of the past millenium. In 1980s, the brimming of a massive real estate ripple in Japan resulted to lagging performance not only in the succeeding "lost decade", but also in the following ones.
This also refers to the state of the US economy from 2000 to 2009, as economic snap in the middle of that decade was not sufficient to correct the effects of two big recessions in the start and end of that decade.
