MANAGED CURRENCY
A currency whose exchange rate is affected by the intervention of a central bank. It is unlike a currency that is determined by the free-market forces of supply and demand in the world market. Virtually speaking, no currencies fall into the latter category. Majority of major world currencies are managed at some point because of the purchasing and selling of these currencies by the central banks of several countries. This is done to stabilize markets and affect their own monetary policies.
