MESSAGE AUTHENTICATION CODE - MAC
A security code entered by a computer user in order to access accounts or portals. The message authentication code (MAC) is attached to the message or request sent by an individual. MACs affixed in the message must be read by the receiving system to grant access to the user. These codes are most commonly used in electronic funds transfers (EFTs) to keep information integrity.
