A technique employed by acquiring or possessing huge amounts of money from serious crimes such as drug trafficking or terrorist activity, which makes these funds legitimate. It can also refer to hiding the source of funds. In most countries, this is considered a heinous crime because it entails using the money to finance other criminal acts.
