NATIONAL MARKET SYSTEM - NMS
It has two basic functions. First is to facilitate trading of over-the-counter stocks which, profitability, size, and trading activity meet definite criteria. Second is to post prices for securities on the NYSE and other regional exchanges at the same time, letting investors to get the best price.
