STERILIZED INTERVENTION
Purchase or sale of foreign currency done by a central bank in order to influence the domestic currency’s exchange value without modifying the monetary base. It entails two different transactions: 1) purchasing or selling foreign currency assets, and 2) an open market operation encompassing the purchase or sale of US government securities. The said operation offsets or equalizes the effects of intervention on the monetary base.
