STOCK SWAP
Act of exchanging one asset for another, which takes place when shareholders’ ownership of the target firm’s shares are swapped for the acquiring company’s shares, as part of a merger or acquisition. Each firm’s shares must be precisely valued to determine a fair swap ratio. This can also happen when a stock option is exercised and the original shareholder swaps their shares for a higher amount.
