STOCK SPLIT
Corporate action in which a firm splits its outstanding shares into several shares. Although the number of existing shares climb by a given multiple, its total dollar value stays the same compared to pre-split amounts. The act does not add up any real value. Also called forward stock split. In the United Kingdom, it is known as bonus issue, capitalization issue, free issue, or scrip issue.
