STOP-LOSS ORDER
Order executed by a broker to sell a security upon reaching a particular price. It is designed to limit an investor’s loss on a position in a security. Although this is most associated with a long position, this can also be used for a short position where the security will be bought if trading above a specified price. Also called stop order or stop-market order.
