SUPPLY SHOCK
Unexpected shift which changes the supply of a product or commodity in the market, hence it leads to sudden change in its price. Supply shock can be positive or negative, but these are nearly always negative and unusually positive. Granted that the total demand is unchanged, the decreased supply will cause the price of a product or commodity to move upward; conversely, the increased supply will push down its prices.
