Expression used to describe huge returns in the stock market. Investors aiming to swing for the fences are endeavoring to reach a financial home run and generate huge amounts of money. It can also pertain to making a huge and possibly risky business decision. The phrase traced its origins in baseball. Batters swinging for the fence are attempting to hit the ball over the fence to mark a home run.
