ACTIVIST INVESTOR
A group or an individual that bought huge numbers of shares of a public company and/or attempts to acquire a seat on the board of the company with an aim to control a major change in the company. A company may attract activist investors if it has excessive costs, mismanaged, could be operated more profitably as a private company or possess other problems that the activist investors thinks it can fix to transform the company more valuable.
