BALLOON INTEREST
A huge coupon rate on the longer term maturity instrument on a serial bond issue. On a serial issue, the bonds will mature at various intervals, producing a string of short- to long-term instruments. Long-term bonds provides a higher interest, giving an incentive to investors for bearing the instrument for a longer duration.
