CHECK CLEARING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY ACT - CHECK 21
Federal law enabling banks and other organizations to create electronic image copies of the original check. The images are sent to financial institutions to be processed, in which money from a client’s account is transmitted to the receiving party’s account. Enacted in 2004, it reduces or eliminates the costs connected to paper check processing.
