COMMUTATION
Substituting one type of income for another. This right is offered to beneficiaries of annuities and life insurance policies. Instead of receiving series of future payments, they would be given a lump-sum payment. Should commutation happen, the net present value of all remaining payment is calculated into a single payment given to the beneficiary.
