CORPORATE ORPHAN
Business unit or division which loses its strategic significance because of changes in the bigger firm’s overall goals. This can be created when a company fails to successfully incorporate a merger or an acquisition, or if a business or divisions fails to contribute to the overall goals of a company. Should that happen, the business is spun off to maintain shareholder value.
