GRANDFATHERED HEALTH PLAN
Health insurance policy created or bought on or before March 23, 2010. The plan is exempted from several charges and consumer protections mandated under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), the US health reform signed into law by President Barack Obama. Grandfathered status is applicable to group health plans made and individual health insurance policies acquired before enacting ACA. Group plans’ status through an employer vary on the date the plan was made, not on the day an employee and family members join.
