HEDGING TRANSACTION
A transaction limiting investment risk through the use of derivatives, such as options and futures contracts. A hedging transaction buys opposite positions in the market to guarantee a certain amount of gain or loss on a trade. They are employed by portfolio managers to lessen portfolio risk and volatility or lock in profits.
