INTEREST RATE GAP
Difference between fixed rate assets and fixed rate liabilities. This reflects the risk of exposure, used by investors and financial institutions, in order to develop hedge positions, oftentimes through interest rate futures. Computations depend on the securities’ maturity and the time period remaining before reaching maturity. It is also applied to the interest rates on the government securities of two countries.
