INTERPRETIVE LETTER
A letter issued by banking regulators that interprets the banking law for a given issue or party, which becomes effective immediately upon issuance. The letters are the same with the IRS letter rulings that clarifies tax law application. Although these letters don’t have the force of law, technically speaking, banks keenly pay attention to interpretive letter for many reasons.
