JAMES TOBIN

An American economist who served in the Council of Economic Advisors and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He received the 1981 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics for his work on analyzing the financial markets, specifically for developing the portfolio-selection theory that describes how investors mitigate risk in their portfolios by choosing some combination of high-risk and low-risk investments. The Keynesian economist’s research interests entails macroeconomics, as well as monetary and fiscal policy. Tobin taught at Harvard and Yale Universities.
