JANUARY BAROMETER

A theory which states the movement of the S&P 500 for the month of January predicts the stock market’s direction for the entire year, measured by the S&P 500. If the S&P 500 was higher at the end of January than at the beginning of the month, investors would expect the stock market to increase during the rest of the year. Conversely, a decline in the S&P 500 denotes the stock market would decrease in the whole year.
