JANUARY EFFECT
An overall increase in stock prices, particularly small cap stocks, for the month of January. This is accounted to an increase in buying, which follows the decrease in price that normally occurs in December when investors, looking at creating tax losses to offset capital gains, prod a sell-off. Small-cap stocks are said to be more affected than mid or large caps.
