JOINT RETURN
A US income tax return filed by two individuals based on their marital status, which results to combined tax liability. This is done on or before the last day of the year and both spouses must agree to submit a joint return. Married couples can either file two separate tax returns or a joint tax return. The latter is often called married filing jointly (MFJ).
