LEVERAGE BUILD UP
The acquisition of additional debt when purchasing additional shares in a company with the potential for large returns. From the perspective of portfolio management, it involved engaging in excessive leveraged positions with the hope of elevating returns. It also happens in corporate takeovers whereas a highly leveraged firm purchases another leveraged company, which leads to increasing the total debt of the parent. Generally speaking, it escalates the risk exposure of an investment.
