MACRO-HEDGE
An investment technique that is designed to eliminate or reduce the risk of an asset or a group of assets in a portfolio. Most of the time, it offsets the entire portfolio by taking a position. But the technique is difficult to practice for there is rarely one asset that will counter the risk of a broader portfolio. Applying this requires taking an offsetting position in every asset. This can be done in times of an economic downturn.
