MARKET PROXY
Broad representation of the market behavior in general; used to illustrate studies that require a market variable, statistic, or comparison. Once selected, it is then used to evaluate and study performances, or test a hypothesis. It is just a fragment of the market for all risky instruments, thus, market proxy cannot be represented as a whole. Every market proxy has to be unique, in accordance to what is being measured or traded.
