MARKETABLE SECURITY
An equity or a debt instrument such as stock, bond, and note, which is listed on an exchange and can be readily bought or sold. Bonds, certificates of deposit, short-term commercial paper, and stocks are considered marketable securities because the public demands for these and can be easily converted into cash.
