MERCANTILISM
An economic philosophy used during the mid 16th and 17th centuries. The main objective was to escalate a country’s financial wealth, especially gold and foreign currency, by imposing government regulation that concerns all of the country’s commercial interest. It was said that national strength could be utilized by putting a limit imports through tariffs and maximizing exports.
